Story of " The Crossroad Of Love "
Crossroad Of Love
Chapter one : Our chance encounter
“ Hi, Intro? “
I stared blankly at the screen for awhile before I typed out my reply.
“ Jaslin 13 female , how about you? “ I replied briefly
“ Timothy 15 male, So are you a guide? “ came his reply
“ Nope… “ I answered
“ Female scout? He asked.
“ No. “ I replied.
“ Erm.. then why are you here? “ came his reply
“ I’m interested in Scouting but I can’t join in any groups due to my gender. “ I typed with vigour.
And we continued to chat throughout the night and this conversation last for the next two weeks as everyday we would meet online just to share our day’s happenings.
Two weeks later Timothy gave me a shock,
“ Hey got something I wanna ask you. “ He wrote.
“ Yes? “ I replied
“ You wanna meet up? “ he asked me
“I’m not too sure…” I replied
“ I planning to give you some of my extra scout badges I have collected. “ He said.
I find it’s kind of awkward for me to meet up with him, so I suggested I will only meet him if I can bring a friend along. To my surprise, he agreed readily.
After deliberating for quite sometime, I finally decided to meet him the next day after school.
Chapter 2: Our first meeting
“ Eh, just to be safe, I will meet you in my school uniform since it’s after school. “ I wrote to him.
“ No problem, but I think you will look cute in your school uniform. “ Timothy replied
I gave him a face and he simply just laugh all the way before adding on he doesn’t have any uniform fetish. To me, at that time I didn’t know what he meant.
The next day at Tampines Mac which is our arranged location to meet up. I waited for him together with my friend Doreen.
Not long after, Timothy came but he mistaken Doreen for me. What a dork, I mumbled to myself. Must be he felt Doreen is more pretty than me which I can’t deny. After we cleared the misunderstanding, he ordered food for us and we began to have some wonderful conversation. He really kept his promise and pass a lot of his scout badges to me. Such a kind gesture really made me happy.
Later that night, he called me and we chat for awhile. But I didn’t realised that as we talk, we actually talk till 4am in the morning. Gosh, I never talk on the phone for so long in my life.
One month later, while chit chatting as always, I told Timothy I’m bored and he suggest to go out.
“ I can’t go out, my mum will kill me if I do.” I replied sadly.
“ Where do you plan to go? “ Timothy asked.
I gave it a thought and after a long pause, I wrote “ The Beach “ .
Moments later, I received an invitation for joining a channel named Solo_beach, curious, I entered. And to my surprise, there was no one but only his nick there.
“ What’s up with this? “ I inquired.
“ You say you want to go beach, but you have curfew, so I created a virtual beach for you.” Timothy replied.
Tears almost flow down my cheeks as I replied him with a “ Thank you “ I’m really touched by this gesture.
Chapter 3: Our questions
Eversince that day, we continued to chat in that channel which solely belongs to the both of us.
One day I asked him a question that I have been keeping deep inside me for so long.
“ What type of girlfriend are you looking for ? “ I asked Timothy.
“ Mmm… most probably someone who has the same character as me, likes fishing, likes fishes and animals. And you? “ He shot the question back at me.
“ More of less same as you but of course I’m looking for a male species. “ I retorted back at him.
Timothy began to “ laugh “ in that channel. But shortly after he suddenly kept quiet. I couldn’t take it any longer and I decided to ask him.
“ Erm.. am I the girl you are looking for?
“ Erm…” came his only reply. And suddenly my handphone rang.
“ Hello? “
“ Yes. “ Came the voice on the phone.
I was in shock for a moment upon hearing his voice saying yes.
Timothy gave me another shock when he ask me,
“ Am I the guy whom you are looking for? “
Yes is only what I could get out of my mouth. And thus our relationship took off. Even though we spent so many happy times together, but we also had our fair share of bad times. Went through so much trouble just to get my parent’s consent for our relationship to be approved.
One night as we are walking along the beach, he held onto my hands and said,
“ As long there’s one star in the sky, our love will be forever “
I stood there and felt so blissed.
Chapter 4: Crossroad of Love
Not long after that fateful night, I suddenly developed a crush on this senior of mine in school, Jimmy.
Secretly Jimmy asked me out and I agreed. But what I didn’t expect was that Timothy got to know of this matter and was very angry.
Finally we decided to meet up and settle this matter. The three of us sat down and sorted things out. When they posed one final question to me,
“Who you really want to be…?” I choose Timothy and not Jimmy.
With that, the matter is resolved amicably and I began to keep my distance away from Jimmy. But once again, hiccups kept coming back despite our efforts to keep them at bay.
Soon, we start to plan financially for our wedding and our future family, Timothy actually made very sound plans for everything down to the minute details.
Time goes by quickly and soon, I went into poly year 3 and met Michael. At that point, Timothy is in NS, but unknowingly, I fell for Michael and Michael likes me too. Not long after we got to know each other, Michael brainwashed me to break up with Timothy.
Deep inside my heart, I’m really confused. But as time goes by, maybe I felt that leaving Timothy will be the right choice for me. I asked around and everyone felt that Michael is actually a better choice for me. But my parents object to me leaving Timothy, with my rebellious nature, knowing that i'm going against my parents’ wishes… but i did just that…
Timothy was heart broken when I broke the news to him…
1 year later after I choose Michael, I find that I still miss Timothy and I prefer to be with Timothy doing those happy things together. Michael seems to be not the guy I wanted anymore.
As days dragged on, I felt myself suffocating with my own thoughts of breaking free. Gone are those happy times which I have shared with Michael, all those sweet loving memories seems to be just a dream.
I guess I have waken up from this dream.
Chapter 5: My final decision
After graduation from Poly, I’ve received a job offer from USA on a 3 year bond. The offer is very attractive and I can do my degree while serving out the bond. But am I able to give up everything I had in Singapore and go overseas for 3 years?
The memories of my favourite food and hangouts seems to be getting vague over the years of neglect. Will they be around after 3 years?
Feeling bored, I went out. Not sure where to go, I hop onto a taxi.
“ Miss, where do you want to go? “ The driver asked me.
“ Anywhere will do. “ I replied without hesitation.
As the driver starts to drive, I peer out of the window and take in the sights of Singapore.
The majestic Merlion statue standing high and mighty looking out to the sea, the spikey exterior of the Esplanade which reminds me more of a brassiere rather than a durian fruit.
The palm of Suntec city, I only realised it’s a palm when someone pointed out an article on the feng shui design of it.
As the driver drive on, I realised he’s bringing me to a famillar place. Just as I was about to tell him to go other place, he stopped.
“ I met my wife here, the ambience is really romantic. I guess you are feeling down, so I hope this place will bring a smile back to you as it did for my wife. Alas, all I had were beautiful memories of the time we spent here. She passed away last year. “ The driver spoke.
Tears flowed down my cheeks as I alight from the taxi. This beautiful place is where Timothy held my hands as he said ““ As long there’s one star in the sky, our love will be forever “
I couldn’t take it anymore and I ran to a tree and cried. As I cried, I realised the tree had a hidden hole in it, it’s a shape of a heart. As I used a twig to probe the insides, I found some letters folded in heart shapes. Curiosity get the better of me as I read the contents of the letter.
It’s written by Timothy! I recognised his handwriting,
Jaslin, my heart broke into a million pieces as you told me your decision to leave me. I fought back my tears and wish you all the best as all I wanted is for you to be happy.
The next letter wrote,
Jaslin, this place is where I declared my love for you, guess this place won’t be the same again without you. Thank You for the beautiful memories.
Another letter wrote,
Jaslin, not sure if you will read all these letters but if you are reading them now. I want to say hello and how are you? Getting on well? Stay happy.
A sense of guilt overcame me as I read all the letters, as much as I would like to but my stubbornness prevented me from admitting leaving Timothy is a mistake.
Something on the ground caught my attention, it’s another letter. As I opened it, the date on the letter caught my attention.
It’s today! Oh my gosh. When did he come?
It read,
Jaslin, I’m about to go for my overseas trip soon. Kinda missed everything in Singapore, especially you. Take care. Goodbye.
I looked around, but I can’t see him. When did he come? What time did he left? I really want to meet him and tell him I’m sorry.
But it’s too late. He left.
“ Passengers of flight 1314, kindly fasten your seatbelt, we will be taking off soon. “ The announcement came via the PA system.
Absentmindedly I fasten my seatbelt and looked out of the window, Goodbye Singapore, see you in 3 years time. Looking forward to a new beginning I think.
“ Excuse me Miss, is the seat taken? A famillar voice spoke.
“ It’s not, you may have it. “ I spoke while looking outside.
“ Thanks. “ came the short reply.
Soon, the plane took off and as the last wheels left the tarmac, that’s when I no longer have any links to Singapore.
As I enjoyed the bird’s eye view of Singapore, something unexpectedly happened.
“ Mr Timothy, I’m really sorry for all the inconvenience. Hope you will have a safe and pleasant trip. The stewardess spoke to the passenger beside me.
Timothy, the name really struck a chord in my heart. As I looked beside me, I cried. The passenger is Timothy, not any other Timothy but the Timothy whom I’ve been trying to contact since I read all the letters he wrote to me.
Timothy smiled.
It’s really a new beginning I supposed, but that will be another story.
The End
