Story of " The Rejection "
Chapter 1: First day in school.
“ Will all the students please assemble in the assembly area in accordance to your new school term class.” Came the same old announcement.
As I slowly drag my heels towards the assembly area, someone bumped into me.
“Sorry Sorry. Excuse me, I’m late.” A female voice kept apologizing.
“Oh it’s ok, I’m late too.” I replied.
She smiled at me as she run off. Late? I looked at my watch. Still early I thought.
Since I’m already in school, can’t be late right?
Hmm… just now that girl really very cute, wonder she’s belong to which class. As I absentmindedly walk towards my class holding area, I saw someone famillar.
Darren, my classmate since secondary one. The joker, entertainer and problem-maker all rolled into one single destructive unit.
“ Hey, do you know there’s a new girl in our class? “ Darren happily shout out.
“ So? Nothing new right? “ I replied him sleepily.
“ Confirmed new, she’s from overseas.” He replied impatiently.
“ Oh okay.” I ignored him and stand in line.
Soon we walk up to our class, I can’t helped but noticed that one of the girl in my class is very famillar.
Next came the most dreaded stuff that everyone hates most. The choosing of class monitors and monitress. As if there’s a need to find a teacher’s pet among us. Well can’t be helped, what must be done will be done.
“ Benjamin and Linda, you two will be our class monitor and monitress.” Miss Lim, my class form teacher announced.
“ Huh? “ I stood up with a blur expression.
Suddenly a girl stood up with an equally blur expression. As I looked at her, she also turned around and look at me. She’s that girl whom bumped into me just now in the morning.

Chapter 2: Linda
Linda, that blur girl whom bumped into me in the morning and now elected to be the class monitress. And best of all she’s the new student whom Darren was trying to tell me just now.
Unfortunately I have to stand in front of the class together with her and formally introduce ourselves.
“ I’m Linda, just migrated to Singapore last month with my family from Hong Kong. “ She started first.
Wow a Hong Kong girl, that’s very interesting indeed. As I stood there and listen to her speak, I felt like I’m daydreaming.
“ Benjamin, your turn. “ Miss Lim announced.
“ Hi everybody, my name is Benjamin or you all can call me Ah Ben “ I proudly told the class.
“ Or you prefer Ben Dan ? “ Darren up to his antics again.
“ Darren, mind your words. Don’t make fun of people’s name. “ Miss Lim chided Darren.
Grinning from ear to ear, Darren’s outburst made the whole class laugh in union. As I look at Linda, her face turned quite red. I wonder if she’s trying hard not to laugh or she remembered bumping into me earlier.
Soon it’s almost recess time and as I began counting down the time left for the bell to ring, I felt someone tapping me on the shoulders. As I turned around, Linda is standing beside me looking embarrassed and lost.
“ Yes? “ I enquired.
“ Sorry about this morning but I was wondering could you show me around the school during recess? I will buy you a drink later. “ Linda shyly spoke.
“ Oh okay. “ I replied.
“ Thank you. “ Linda happily replied.
What a weird girl, fancy asking for a tour during recess. As I look at her clearing her deck, she smiled when she noticed I’m looking at her.

Chapter 3: Recess Time
“ Ring…………..” The school bell finally rang for recess break.
Just as I was about to run out of the room, I realized I need to show Linda around the school. So I began to walk towards her seat, Linda is writing something on a notebook. Curious, I stand behind her and read what she’s writing.
Day 1.
Bumped into a guy this morning, he’s kinda cute. End up he’s also in the same class as moi. Later Ben is bringing me around the school during recess. Sounds kinda fun though I’m not sure if I’m ruining his recess time. Nevertheless I shall buy him a drink to compensate the time spent with me. Gosh I’m blushing now.. Hee Hee….
“ Are you ready to go? “ I suddenly spoke.
Linda almost jumped out from her seat. She hurriedly put away the note book and kept looking at me with her blushing face. I pretended that I never read what she wrote and gestured her to follow me.
As I show her around the school, everyone is looking at me in envy. Guys are envy while the girls are jealous of Linda. With her looks, it very natural for the girls to react in such manner.
All this while Linda is oblivious to the stares and lusty eyes from everyone, not sure what she’s thinking about. Maybe thinking of what to write in that book again? Must be, I shrugged off that thought and continue to show her around. Finally we end up at the canteen, Linda was about to go over to the drink stall when I stopped her.
“ I will buy for you. “ I said.
“ But I said just now it’s me whom is treating. “ Linda retorted.
“ I know but I find it strange for a girl to treat me. “ I replied.
She blush and nod her head.
Why do girls blush so easily?

Chapter 4: The first time we hold hands.
After we had our drink, the bell rang. As we made our way to the classrooms, our classmates start to tease us.
“ Wow, so fast couple already? “ Darren in his usual joking tone.
“ What couple? “ I shot back.
“ Both of you went dating just now? “ Darren teased again.
“ Yah, why you jealous? “ I replied in frustration.
What was meant to shut up Darren proved to be a futile attempt as Darren kept bombarding some silly comments. During all this mayhem, I forgotten about Linda. As I turned and look at her, she’s blushing very red.
I grab her hand and pull her away from Darren’s harassing. As we reach the classroom, she suddenly pull her hand away from mine. Stunned, it took me quite some time to realised that I had grab her hand and held on to it too long. I apologized to her and she went back to her seat without saying anything.
During lessons, I kept looking at her, hoping she will turn around and look at me. But she never, she just kept looking in front. Finally I decided to apologised to her again after school.
“ Linda, I got something to tell you. “ I spoke out.
“ Yes? “ Came her reply.
“ You know I really am sorry for what happened just now. “ I replied.
“ Oh it’s ok, I don’t mind. “ Linda replied smiling.
“ I see, I thought you might be angry at me just now. “ I told Linda.
“ Actually I’m just abit not used to it. Anyway will you be free later? “ Linda asked.
“ Sure, where do you want to go? “ I asked.
“ Just bring me go out. Can? “
With that Linda passed me her handphone number and where to meet her.

Chapter 5: The Date
Funny, how come she’s so free today? Today is just the start of the new school term and she’s free to go out. The weirdest part is that she asked me to bring her go out. Nevertheless I reached the place early, but she’s already there waiting for me.
Initially I can’t recognised her at all. Since this morning, I have been seeing her wearing that plain old school uniform. But now she’s wearing a black tube top with jeans and a jacket draped over her shoulders.
“ Wow, I almost can’t recognized you. “ I spoke up.
Blushing she simply smiled and nod her head. Soon after we made our way to orchard and I show her where teenagers like to hang out during their free time. It’s like an eye opener to her as she seldom had the chance to see all the places we went to.
Initially we stand quite far apart, but slowly she beginning to walk nearer to me. Sometimes I will steal some glances at her and she would often be looking at me too. Linda will quickly turned her head away and blushed.
I felt a lot of eyes are staring at me, before I knew it, I noticed a lot of guys are showing me angry faces. A dork like me is going out with a pretty gal, I think a lot of guys are jealous. Well I can’t do anything about how they think but must really admit, Linda is really an attractive girl. Who knows maybe I might fall for her soon.
Alas time just passed so fast when you are enjoying yourself, I offered to send her home and she agreed. Along the way to her home, she kept very quiet. When I asked her what happened she refused to tell me and just remained silent.
The walk from the interchange to her house is quite far and she opt to walk home. Needless to say, I can’t change her decision. So the two of us simply walk towards her home. As we neared her place, she suddenly pull me aside and whispered something to me.
“ Actually my parents want to meet you now.” She told me softly.
“ What? “ My instant reply.
“ Just awhile will do, please? “ She begged me…
“ Ok “ is all I could said as she smiled and hold on to my hands as we made our way up via the escalator.

Chapter 6: Her parent
“ So you must be Benjamin.” A loud voice greeted me as Linda ushered me into her home.
“ Yes Sir, nice to meet you Sir.” I replied meekly.
“ There’s no need to call me Sir, call me Uncle James is enough. “ Uncle James answered.
Uncle James, a tall and sturdy man like those army officers whom will make your legs wobble like jelly with a sideways glance.
“ Actually Linda told us about you when she came home after school. So we thought maybe we can meet you when you fetch her home after the both of you went out.”
Uncle James said smiling.
Weird, first time I send a girl home and I encountered such hospitality. Maybe this is how things are done I supposed.
“ Hi Benjamin. “ A soft and gentle voice greeted me as I walk into their living room.
“ Hello Auntie. “ I greet the voice.
“ No no no, I’m not Linda’s mother, she’s at the kitchen. I’m Linda’s aunt. You can call me aunt Jane“ Aunt Jane corrected my mistake.
“ Benjamin, I’m in the kitchen. Would you like to have a drink? “ Linda’s mum finally spoke up.
“ It’s okay Auntie, I will help myself. “ I answered meekly.
“ Sure no problem, you can come in now. “ Linda’s mum replied back
As I walk into the kitchen to get my drink, I saw a replica of Linda right in front of me. Weird they looked so alike. Could have pass off as twins.
“ Hello Benjamin, you can call me Auntie Alice. Help yourself to the drinks in the fridge. “ Auntie Alice pointed to the fridge.
Hmm, so strange.. They treat me so well.. It does really felt weird. Or maybe I’m dreaming?

Chapter 7: Linda’s secret
Linda excused herself and went to change while Uncle James , Aunt Alice and Aunt Jane invite me to the living room to talk.
“ Benjamin, I’m not sure if Linda have told you this before but I’m sure she didn’t. “ Uncle James spoke up.
Upon seeing my blurred look, they understand that I have not been told yet. Slowly word by word they told me about Linda’s medical condition. Linda is suffering from a rare blood disorder which is like a ticking time bomb.
Shocked, I’m lost for words.
“ Benjamin, we told Linda to bring you home as she seldom made friends so easily due to her insecurities and also her fear of being shunned. So We would like you to keep this to yourself and help us make her happy till her end is near. “ Aunt Alice starts to sob when Uncle James and Aunt Jane comfort her.
“ No problem, I will give you my promise that I will look after her in school. “ I said confidently.
“ How come look after me in school? “ Linda suddenly spoke out.
“ Oh they want me to take care of you while you in school as you are still new. “ I quickly change the subject.
“ Wow, thanks. I really owed you a lot. “ Linda replied.
“ Nah, it’s okay. You can find me whenever you are in doubts. What I can do, I will do, If can’t, also will find other ways to do it. “ I answered cheekily.
Soon it’s time for me to go. Linda decide to show me where’s the bus stop and followed me down.
“ Thanks for meeting my parents just now, hope you be offended by the sudden request. “ Said Linda.
“ It’s ok, guess everything does have a first time. “ I replied.
With that she blush again and wave me goodbye. As I watch her turned and left, I felt sorry that her time is running out soon. Really a pity…..

Chapter 8: Time really flies quickly
Been quite awhile eversince I met Linda’s parents, have been keeping my promise and kept a lookout on Linda’s condition.
Slowly she began to make friends with our classmates and stepping out of her shell, but most of the time, she will be by my side whenever she had the chance to. Something which I really don’t understand.
But nevertheless I never bothered about it as it’s also good since I can watch out for her all the time. But I noticed she’s getting weaker as day goes by.
“ Linda are you alright? “ I asked.
“ Yes I’m fine, just alittle tired. “ Linda replied.
“ You want to sit down and rest? You look really pale. “ I offered her a seat.
“ No it’s ok, I’m fine. “ Linda replied softly.
At that time I felt weird, why am I doing all this? Everytime I see her feeling so weak and helpless, my heart seems to ache. Funny, don’t tell me I have fallen for her?
“ Love is patient, Love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own (will), is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoiced in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things; believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things “
Somehow fate really plays a cruel part now. If I have fallen for her, I’m not sure what to do now. Everyday passes and I felt myself falling even deeper for her.
She’s the only girl I felt so comfortable with, yet I don’t know whether it’s love or just a simple crush. Before school start, I will think of her. During class, I will look at her and day dream.
I don’t know what’s going on my mind when I composed a Chinese poem linking her Chinese characters with mine.
Somehow it’s really nice, I wonder whether she will like it. But guess it will be another story I supposed.

Chapter 9: The rejection
As days goes by without leaving any traces of the past behind, I began to plan my next move as to how things will developed further.
I kept thinking of Linda everyday, but I dare not contact her unless it’s really important, as I lay on my bed holding those neo prints I had taken together with her, I felt I’m in love with Linda.
Despite knowing her condition, I know my feelings for her is really true. I really committed myself into a “ relationship “ which I don’t really know whether it may bear fruits. But deep down inside myself, I know what I want and I hope things will end up as to my wishes.
But slowly Linda kept missing classes, everytime she comes back the next day, her face will be very pale. And I noticed there’s alot of puncture marks on her arms. Noticing my curious eyes, Linda tried to cover her marks. But I stopped her,
“ Don’t, actually I know your condition. “ I finally admit to her.
“ I just knew it, how long have you know about this matter “ ? She screamed at me.
“ Since that day I went to your house. “ I told her.
“ You knew it for so long and you never even tell me? “ Linda trembled with anger.
“ Linda, look I’m really sorry but there’s something I really need to tell you. “ I told her.
“ What? “ She shot back at me.
“ Will you be my girlfriend? “ I asked.
“ You are crazy, look at my condition. I will never accept you, at first I thought you will be my best friend, my only best friend. But I will never ever trust you again, NEVER! “ Linda shouted.
As she said “ Never!” I fainted and I didn’t know what happened to Linda..
Slowly I began to hear her voice crying out to me as I find myself lying on a strange bed. With the strange beeping sound, I felt myself breathing through a tube.
Linda and my parents are by my side as I struggled to get up on the bed. Despite my efforts, I can’t move at all. As I looked at them, tears start forming in my eyes. Suddenly I feel very light and tired. With a final burst of energy, I held onto Linda’s hand.
Goodbye Linda.
Actually I’m suffering from a terminal illness, but I kept it from the rest so as to not gain sympathy from them. Been in and out of the hospital eversince I’m diagnoised with this condition.
Such a pity my life would end this way just as I’ve fallen for Linda. But this is how things will end.
